Developing Best Practice Programme

A typical Developing Best Practice programme will support a whole school development area such as writing and includes both consultancy and training.

TeachingSchools have found this intensive programme extremely valuable in moving understanding and practice forward, not just in one classroom but across the whole school. It is individually personalised to your particular needs and takes shape according to your requirements, but in general the outline below describes a possible sequence of support.

Stage 1: Whole school [or Key Phase] review of learning and teaching through lesson observation, children's work and planning sampling with headteacher / senior manager

Stage 2: Whole school training sessions on agreed focus area

Stage 3: Consultant led: plan-teach-evaluate sessions [next steps agreed] with individual teacher

Stage 4: Consultant supported: plan-teach-evaluate sessions [next steps agreed] with individual teacher

Stage 5: Review and Evaluation [including lesson sampling].

The greatest impact and sustainability is best achieved by a senior manager attending some or all of the sessions.
